I know these types of posts have been in circulation for awhile now, but as they keep popping up I thought, “I have to do one of these!” So here I am, pulling up my Instagram photos and sharing my secrets (and by secrets, I mean the truth, haha!). Quick disclaimer: My instagram truly is not up to par with those of some of the other bloggers who have done this type of “Behind the Gram” post, but regardless, I still wanted to do it!
Here we go…
Reality: This Avocado Toast was okay – I wouldn’t go rush to Le Pain Quiotiden for it. My toast was SO burnt and dry – I could’ve made Toast better myself! The Kale salad was kind of gross (and I like Kale! …but I definitely don’t eat it on the reg). Also $9.95 is the most ridiculous price for avocado on toast. Also, Laura and I came here and ordered this specific item solely because College Prepster did. (#oops #obsessed)
What it looks like: I’m in NYC on a summer night, and Ice Cream is a must. (And I’m not counting calories, at all.)
Reality: Out of focus – and not really in a good way. This is the nicest the ice cream looked – after that it was dripping EVERYWHERE! Side note: I ordered the flavor thinking it would be a chocolate based ice cream and it wasn’t – I don’t even like vanilla ice cream (although I will admit this was pretty good regardless!). I didn’t even finish the whole thing because 1. it was probably a gazillion calories and 2. the dripping. Also, after this, Laura and I went (with our ice cream in our hands) to Insomnia Cookies, asking if they would deliver later. If you were wondering – yes, we did order cookies later (see this post for details).
What it looks like: The sky is so pretty, and I just happen to be outside! Is that my house? A friend’s house? It doesn’t matter, it looks chic and very suburban!
Reality: I don’t know who lives there – I think it actually houses a business. I was out with my friends in New Canaan, which is this cute little preppy town in Connecticut. We went out to dinner and were wandering around, bored because we finished dinner/gelato super quickly. I snapped this pic and tried to pretend it wasn’t for my blog by repeating, “The sky is so pretty tonight!”
Reality: This is so staged. I made my mom wait 5 minutes (at least) to start eating these because I had to get the perfect shot. I slightly edited the picture after I took it and showed it to my mom – and she was super impressed. They did look as good in person – but the picture makes everything look so much more chic (and the lighting looks 1000% better after editing it)! P.S. I couldn’t sacrifice which flavors I wanted just to create a color scheme… I can’t go that far. These were so delish though – and worth the wait to eat for the instagram picture!
What it looks like: I always have a healthy breakfast and I always read Vogue.
Reality: I subscribe to Vogue, but to be honest, sometimes I don’t read it right away – the morning I snapped this photo was when I finally had time to flip through it! I also don’t eat healthy breakfasts like this everyday, but I really did enjoy this one I had! (And actually should make it more often… lol)
What it looks like: My life is super glam, and while some people have already started school, I’m off in soho shopping with my friends Jenna and Jess. I just happened upon this, snapped one pic, and moved on!
Reality: Honestly, I did just stumble upon this BUT we took a thousand pictures of this. I stood trying to get the right angle, and Jenna took some pics of herself here to get a new profile photo. I will say this: when you are with other bloggers trying to get an insta shot is so much easier!
Hope you guys enjoyed! If you’ve done a post like this, link it below, I love reading them!!
My instagram is @fashionnewcomer if you want to see what I’m up to and guess what the reality behind each picture is :) Also – I have recently been starting to use vsco cam to edit my pictures (thanks Chloe for the reccomendation on Chic Chat!) and it is fabulous. Go check it out!
P.S. 4 out of the 6 of the photos feature food, so on that note, please do check out my instagram to see that my life isn’t only about food (…even though it kind of is).
