I haven’t done a post on makeup in a really long time but when I saw the new Brooke Shields and MAC collaboration, I knew I had to!
This collection is absolutely gorgeous – the colors are a mix of fun and neutral, giving people a great way to experiment without going too crazy.
Shields came up with the color schemes, and told Refinery29 her reasons for choosing those colors. “So, I wanted as much clear as possible in the packaging. As far as the colors, I think a coral lip is refreshing… I just wanted everything to be pretty enough to leave on display,” she said.
The main attraction of the collection, a 15 shade eyeshadow palette, is pretty expensive at $85 (and is already sold out!) but I think you can agree that the color combination is absolutely stellar. There are also the two 5-shade eyeshadow palettes (the shape and layout of them reminds me of a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick) at $44 each. These palettes have fun neutral/purple hues that would look on a wide range of skin tones and eye colors.
In middle school/early high school, there was a period of time where I was obsessed with MAC and would go check out every collection released. I’ve been disconnected from that for such a long time now (sometimes I’m even guilty of being too lazy to put on eye make-up in the morning), but this collection really stood out to me. Maybe it’s just because I hoard neutral eyeshadows (oops), but between the packaging, the colors, and the idea behind it, I think MAC really knocked it out of the park.
In an interview with New York Magazine, Shields said, “[Makeup] shouldn’t be labeled as vain. It’s okay to celebrate your looks and body and your face. Makeup, for me, means that I’ve taken the time to groom myself. It means I’ve taken an interest in myself. I think it’s hard for many women to do, because we haven’t been taught that it’s okay.”
What do you think of the collection? Will you be buying anything from it?
Also: please let me know if there are any new makeup collections being released that you would like to see featured! I definitely have neglected Beauty posts on the blog and would love to do more if that is something you all would be interested in reading!
