Saturday is in with the new; the new being normcore. It’s practically a revolution! Especially when Kate Spade starts to buy into it, don’t you think?
What I’m referring to, if the title didn’t already give it away, is Kate Spade Saturday’s latest venture into the realm of collaborating with more mainstream brands (see my discussion of prior collaborations here). This time, it’s Kate Spade Saturday, Kate Spade’s hip, trendier sister-brand that is trying to be more appealing to the girls who have enough money to buy Kate Spade but just aren’t preppy enough. (It’s initial motive was to be cheaper, but with $95 dollar sweatshirts I’m not quite sure that is exactly the case)
KS Saturday is so fun – their signature color is yellow, which immediately signals happiness and a low-key, fun attitude. Even just flipping through the website, it is apparent that KS Saturday is a huge deviation from the classic, more well known standard Kate Spade.
I have a few KS items – one being an adorable cross body – but what I’m really excited about is their new line of sneakers. Everyone knows I’m obsessed with handbags (…a post on this is in the works, I swear!), but my next favorite accessory is shoes.
Hm. As soon as I wrote that sentence I realized perhaps it isn’t true, because I’m a big jewelry girl as well. Can someone be equally obsessed with all the remaining accessories after handbags are factored out? Let me know. Haha.
Anyways, back to the point: Kate Spade Saturday x New Balance. These two brands teamed up to create a collection of actually cute kicks. I’m not an athletic person at all but I quickly hopped online and purchased the pair I loved. First, these are adorable and totally fun – but like I said at the beginning, normcore is popular now – meaning sneakers are in! Plus, having cute sneakers will motivate me to work out more (at least that’s what I’m telling myself now).
Sure, the designs are a little out there but they are so incredibly fun. They are $95 a pair, but sneakers typically retail for around that price anyways, so why not take it a step further and get both the quality and design. Plus Kate Spade Saturday gives 15% when you sign up with your e-mail, so don’t forget to do that.
Curious about the pair I purchased? The bottom middle – black base with the signature Kate Spade Saturday white and black stripes on the bottom. These are perfect for a neutral girl like me – the colors will work with everything, but I still like the added touch of the pattern which gives it more pizzazz. Yes I just used pizzazz… bear with me people.
When they come in the mail and I have them for a while (given that they fit and I keep them) I’ll do a follow up post and a review. However, I have no doubt that the quality will be amazing – New Balance knows what they are doing in the whole sneaker-durability department.
What do you think of this collaboration?
