I have the most love-hate relationship with blogging. Perhaps that is the best way to sum up my recent inconsistency and lack of inspiration. It’s hard to be so in love with something that, despite putting in so much effort, yields no results.
Let me explain: yes, there are the College Prepsters and Design Darlings that can survive off their blogging income alone – obviously, it would appear then that they are yielding results. I am describing the lower tier of an already lower tier, the people like me who blog because they actually like to write. People in this realm, including myself, try to not conform to the preppy, lilly-wearing, monogram-loving masses. It’s not that I don’t like those things – it’s just that those things are not an indication of my entire style or even who I am as a person, therefore, they are often omitted from my blog.
As a result, I get no feedback. No results. No readers. No viewers. No likes.
I blog for myself, but it would be nice to know that there were people on the other side who respected my desire to pursue my own interests and not just copy the general norm.
I don’t mean to bash the “norm ” – the people who blog about those things generally do really love them – but I’m not going to be fake on my own corner of the Internet just because it’s what everyone else is doing. It is frustrating because I upkeep with this blog but I’m not really sure who I’m reaching, if generally blog readers all fall into a pattern that my blog wouldn’t fit.
As a result, I feel like my blog is just insignificant and irrelevant – thus why I’ve been a little silent lately.
I know I’ve explained this gripe so many times before – and I know I need to realize that blogging in itself is a battle that will never dissipate. So instead I’ve decided to march on, especially now that the summer is starting. I will continue to develop The Fashion Newcomer in whatever ways I want – and I hope that the people who are reading will stay along for the journey!
As for my summer schedule… I’m thinking I’ll just post whenever I want – with the goal being at least twice a week, but perhaps more. I’m going to try to make my posts better and bolder, and hopefully I’ll work on some design updates on the site!
As for now… expect lots of Newcomer in NYC posts, graduation preparation, and possibly some business casual looks (for these last few weeks of school, I’m doing an internship instead of attending my usual classes!). If you have any questions or requests, as always, send them to me!
