If Bloggers Were Honest: Instagram Edition

Welcome back to Instagram Week on The Fashion Newcomer!

Remember when Laura and I collaborated on If Bloggers Were Honest? This time I’m going solo to continue the series with If Bloggers Were Honest: Instagram Edition. Keep in mind – these posts aren’t serious. There are so many things to make fun of when it comes to blogging – and Instagram is perhaps the biggest one of them all.

Incase you didn’t know, Instagram dominates the lives of bloggers more than they would probably want to admit (hence why I had enough material to dominate a whole week of content to it!). I’m actually afraid to admit that I occasionally find myself hoping that the restaurant I’m heading to will have white marbled tables and good lighting. If I’m going out for brunch, I almost plan ahead of time to order something that will look good on Instagram. It’s a hilarious flaw that I can’t control anymore….Oops.

1. I get cappuccinos just for an Instagram picture.

I love coffee but I typically don’t get cappuccinos… it’s just a personal preference thing. But when I am at a cute cafe that has cappuccinos, I without fail get one because they are so easy to Instagram; they always look good. Once Laura and I were out and purposely bought the extremely overpriced cappuccinos for a good picture.

2. If I go somewhere with a white marbled counter, you can bet it’ll be on Instagram.

The picture above was taken on a gorgeous white marble granite countertop… not mine. I’m embarassed  to admit this picture was taken while I was babysitting. There were fresh flowers, marble counter tops, and I had just gotten the phone case and wanted to show it off… so voila, an Instagram was created.

3. If you don’t edit your photos before you Instagram them, who do you think you are?

See the difference in the above two photos? I showed these pictures because they are a bit more subdued version of how drastic an editing app can change what your photos look like. These two photos are pretty similar, but obviously I cropped it and changed up the lighting so the colors and shadows come off differently. The only editing app I use is VSCO cam because using more than one just seems like a hassle. Maybe that is why my Instagram isn’t as great as it could be, but hey, that is fine with me.

4. Shadows are my worst enemy.

Okay, aside from the fact that this picture is a little off to begin with – it technically did have potential. Macrons plus cute stationery is basically any bloggers dream, am I right? However, the shadows the macarons exerted just couldn’t be erased. And now that I re-evaluate this picture, the OCD/type A in me is cringing at the little piece of the pad not ripped off at the top… oh well.

Instagram Week Post #2 now complete!

Planning where to go out to eat, and buying things I normally wouldn’t just so I can Instagram it is more accurate than I’d care to admit…ha! It’s really nice to see someone being honest about blogging life. It isn’t always filled with fresh peonies, gorgeous coffee, and a perfectly organized café table they just had brunch at. In reality, they spent ten minutes staging it all and another five looking crazy while taking 50 pictures just so one could turn out good enough to edit and use. (But if the picture turns out, you know the OCness was totally worth it!) ;)
Anyways, great post; I LOVE it!

Exactly!!! Everyone wants to masquerade behind an image of perfection, but it is way more fun to just poke fun at it and embrace it for what it is?
Thank you so much for commenting, I really appreciate it!

This was such a funny post! As a blogger myself, I am definitely guilty of a lot of these Instagram mishaps. I really do love a good flower bouquet! Love this post.
